Following a directive by His Majesty, Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the supreme commander of the Oman Armed Forces, the Military Technological College (MTC) was created with the intent on becoming a Center of Excellence in the unique provision of education and training for Ministry of Defence (MoD) and civilian technicians and engineers in Oman. In 2013, The College started providing education for military and civilian personnel in a single technological college of a higher learning. The College is amongst the best in the field of military and applied non-military technical education and training providers, delivering all MoD technician education and training to meet Omani Operational Performance Standards (OOPS) and external awards requirements.
The College caters for the education of technicians and engineers for the Royal Army Oman, Royal Air force Oman, Royal Navy of Oman, MoD Engineering Services, with additional remit for programmes to meet the requirements of the Royal Guard, Royal Court, Royal Flight, Royal Oman Police and Oman Air.
The Mission of MTC is to deliver vocational trade, specialist, undergraduate and post- graduate engineering programmes in a well-equipped and high-quality learning and training environment, resulting in the acquisition of knowledge and the achievement of operational competence and effectiveness of all levels.
In endeavoring to attain the levels and standards envisioned towards fulfilling this mission, a decision was made to form a partnership with the University of Portsmouth (UoP), who would provide assistance in the design and development of a UK standards aligned suite of programmes in engineering. In addition to academic validation by the UoP, The programmes developed at MTC have been designed to meet the accreditation standards of UK professional engineering institutions. The programmes hosted by the Department of Aeronautical Engineering have also been designed to meet the aircraft maintenance standards for certification by the European Aviation Safety Authority (EASA).
